Definition of Distracted Driving – using a cell phone or other handheld device, and other actions that take away the focus from drivers handling their vehicles.
Distracted Driving Facts
-4.6 seconds is the time that a driver is not looking at the road when texting or reading a text. In that period of time, if the vehicle is going 55mph, it travels the length of a football field.
-You are 23 times more likely to get into a crash when you are engaged in distracted driving.
-Drivers using handheld devices are four times more likely to get into a crash where they get injured.
-40% of teenagers stated they have been in a vehicle when the driver’s use of a cell phone put them or others in danger.
-11% of fatal accidents when there was a driver under 20 involved a driver being distracted (people 20 and under have the highest percentage of distracted drivers).
