2009 Sturgis Rally General Info

The 2009 Sturgis bike rally will be the 69th time it has been held since 1938 when it started as a motorcycle race. The Sturgis bike week is one of what we call the "Big 4" motorcycle rallies with the others being the Daytona Beach Bike Week, Laconia Motorcycle Week, and Myrtle Beach Bike Week. Sturgis is the premier biker rally and is on the Lightning Customs 2009 Major Biker Rallies List.

There will be plenty to look at during Sturgis 2009 from checking out Main Street and all of the other events and attractions that surround the whole Sturgis South Dakota area. The Black Hills area has a number of scenic rides including the Badlands, Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and more.

Yes, the 2008 Sturgis biker rally numbers were down like the majority of rallies, but it made it easier to get around. The slow economy and high gas prices are major reasons, but also the West Coast Choppers, Orange County Choppers, and Biker Build Off surge has slowed. So, a lot of the rise in the attendance was people who bought bikes and now have sold them and people who attended rallies even though they did not ride.

Simply put, Sturgis has everything including the best bike builders, celebrities, top national music acts, bike shows, races, hill climbs, poker runs, huge displays by manufacturers and major distributors, tattoo contests, dynos, biker contests, contests for the ladies to show skin, stunt shows, a huge amount of vendors, attractions at some of the worlds most popular biker bars, and anything and everything else you have ever seen at any rally.
