ROT Biker Rally/Republic of Texas Rally
June 12-15, 2014
ROT Rally General Info
Important Note- ROT Rally weekend is a "No Refusal" weekend. Austin police officials have announced they will be enforcing a no-refusal initiative this weekend for the annual Republic of Texas Biker Rally. From 9pm Friday until 5am Sunday, police will be able to quickly obtain search warrants to test the blood of suspected drunk drivers and riders who refuse to take a breathalyzer test.
According to police, there are traditionally a large number of DWI arrests during ROT Rally each year. Last year, there were 126 arrests across Central Texas and fifty were within the Austin city limits. Another example of the level of arrests during no-refusal weekends in Austin is that 102 people were arrested who were suspected drunken drivers during over Memorial Day weekend.

As one of the largest Texas biker rallies, the ROT rally in Austin is on the 2014 Lightning Customs' Major Motorcycle Rallies
The official ROT Rally grounds are east of Austin at the Travis County Expo Center. Although the ROT motorcycle rally has about 45,000 attendees who go to the official location to enjoy the events and camp, there a lot more people who come into town and find more than enough to do in the Austin area that is FREE. Estimates are that some 200,000 plus bikers and locals go to downtown Austin and enjoy the surrounding area. With 45,000 attendees the Republic of Texas Rally ranks nationally probably in the top twenty largest rallies behind much larger rallies like Sturgis, Daytona Bike Week, Bikes Blues BBQ, Lone Star Galveston, Johnstown Thunder in the Valley, Ohio Bike Week, Biketoberfest, Leesburg, Delmarva, etc., etc.
We talk to a lot of people on and off the rally grounds and the consensus is a major reason why so many people opt to not go to the official ROT grounds at the Expo Center is because it is expensive. Another reason is during this time of year you can expect the weather to be in the mid-90s if not in the 100s. Finally, when the heat is combined with the humidity, it makes catching some wind while riding in the beautiful Hill Country and hanging out at the bars a lot more appealing than being at the official location.
Republic of Texas Bike Rally Attractions
More on the free attractions in the Hill Country and the Austin area, this area has amazing riding through the lush and green rolling hills, around Lake Travis, and a lot of other cool places. Downtown Austin is an awesome place to party with 9 out of 10 businesses being bars or pubs. During the ROT Rally weekend the downtown area is barricaded off for motorcycle only parking. Since downtown Austin is blocked off, huge crowds gather to watch bands, other attractions, and since Austin is also known as the Live Music Capital of the World, there will be bands playing wherever there is room. Because downtown Austin's bars and pubs will be primarily filled with motorcycle enthusiasts and bikers the businesses cater to them by providing a lot of beer and drink specials.
If you don't mind the previous noted weather, the camping area is a pretty wild party at night. On the official grounds there are top name bands, bike shows, some custom bike builders, big distributors, a parade to downtown starting at the rally grounds, other contests and attractions, and vendors. Although the number of vendors sounds like good news for attendees, the comments we have heard from vendors is that the increase in the number of vendors has not been matched by the same percentage of attendees. Finally, no matter if you go to the Expo Center or are anywhere else in Austin, the women are hot like they are in most warm states.
