General Laconia Bike Week Information

Laconia Motorcycle Week is held each year over Fathers Day Weekend during June in the beautiful Lake Region of New Hampshire. Laconia is considered the oldest motorcycle rally in the US, is one of what LightningCustoms.com refers to as the "Big 4" rallies (the others being Sturgis, Myrtle Beach Bike Week, and Daytona Beach Bike Week), and Laconia Motorcycle Week is on LightningCustoms.com's 2010 Major Bike Rallies List.

The Laconia rallys origin was in 1916 when a few hundred motorcycle enthusiasts gathered at Weirs Beach. In 1917 the Laconia motorcycle event became an officially recognized Gypsy Tour, which at the time all of the Gypsy Tours were held on the same day throughout the country.

Gypsy Tours were the beginning of modern day motorcycle rallies where motorcycle enthusiasts would gather for races, hill climbs, field events, other festivities, and to enjoy company of other riders. Early races and hill climbs in Laconia have grown to be the modern day Laconia motorcycle rally.

Laconia Rally Attractions

The slow down in the US economy and changes in the motorcycle industry lowered the number of attendees at this rally like it did most other rallies in 2009. Laconia NH also had rain and some cold weather during the 2009 rally, but you have to expect and prepare for some bad weather during an eight day rally New Hampshire.

In 2009, some of the highlights in Laconia included the Broken Spoke East Coast vs. West Coast which was a Biker Build Off style competition between Paul Cox and Chica (Paul Cox won), live music from Edgar Winters, and the Harley Davidson Road Tour. The Road Tour includes live bands, stunt riders, the full line of new bikes, demo rides, and the Traveling Museum which is always very cool to wander through.

Currently the 2010 rally schedule is being put together, but no matter what year you go, the Laconia bike rally still celebrates its history with the Loudon Classic, Hill Climb at Gunstock, vintage races, and a number of other races that have developed over the years. There is also the Gypsy Tour Parade which celebrates the old origins of the Laconia bike rally and the POW-MIA Freedom Ride. The Laconia area has mountains, beach areas, and lakes so there are always the scenic guided or self guided tours for you to enjoy.

Festivities happen all around the Laconia area and especially at Weirs Beach on Lake Winnipesake. Being one of the premier rallies you can expect to see the biggest and the best that the motorcycle industry has to offer during the Laconia biker rally.

The official Laconia bike week schedule has not been announced, but some of the attractions you will find include the major motorcycle manufacturers and manufacturers will have huge set ups, industry celebrities and top name custom bike builders, bike shows, top name bands, displays, demo rides, poker runs, tattoo contests, contests for the ladies including the Miss Laconia Bike Week Contest, dynos, vendors, and more to be announced as we approach the 2010 Motorcycle Week date.
