Hollister Motorcycle Rally
July 4-6, 2014
Hollister Rally General Info
Hollister is not only one of the best California Motorcycle Rallies
and on the 2014 Lightning Customs' Major Motorcycle Rallies
List, but also one of the most important rallies as it is the birthplace of the "American biker".
The Hollister "incident" in 1947 inspired Marlon Brando's "The Wild One" which cemented the biker image in the US. Although it was more just bikers being bikers, the racing in the streets, public intoxication, and biker fun got the police from the area in riot gear to Hollister. The people who were actually in Hollister in 1947 say that the media blew it way out of proportion.
Hollister Bike Rally Attractions
One of the attractions of the Hollister motorcycle rally is the great riding scenery. Hollister is located forty-five miles south of San Jose and forty-five miles east of Santa Cruz which makes a number of cool rides close. If you take the ride to Santa Cruz once you get there you can cruise up the Boardwalk along the beach.
If you can make a little more time before, during or after the Hollister rally you need to go up the Pacific Coast Highway/Highway 1. This highway runs right along the coast offering incredible ocean and beach views as well as there are a number of areas where you get views from the high, sheer cliffs.
Some other areas you might want to check out are Carmel and Monterey down south or even a day trip up to Napa Valley. The key for good riding and avoiding the ridiculous traffic is staying on the coast. Other attractions will include bike shows, poker runs, beer gardens, competitions, manufacturers' big rigs, vendors, and dozens of bands as well as the Miss Hollister bikini contest.
