|Description||This Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014 the Brown Funeral Home and Brown Family Center are proud to sponsor the 10th annual “Thunder Rolls in Belleville.” This is a special tribute to honor all veterans, especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives to protect our nation. This is our 10th year anniversary and once again we are proud to sponsor and organize this honorable event. Please consider coming out to honor our veterans this day.
The ceremony is preceded by a one hour police escorted motorcycle ride through parts of Van Buren Township and then into Belleville. Participants in the ride register and line up for the ride starting at 11 am in Wayne County Community College Western Campus’ front parking lot located just north of the Haggerty Road/Interstate 94 intersection, on Haggerty Road in Belleville (9555 Haggerty).
More than 300 bikes are expected this year with the number increasing every year. We have all makes of bikes with many of the riders being veterans themselves. Many proudly fly our American Flag during the ride. It is quite a sight to see.
We even post the map of the ride in the local newspapers and have many who stand along the route waving their flags and cheering the riders on. There is a $10 donation for riders and all riders are welcome. Each year a special pin is designed and given out to all paying riders. The money will benefit local veterans and their families.
The bikers make their way to Belleville’s Veteran’s Memorial in Horizon Park, located off Belleville Lake on High Street, east of Main Street. The estimated arrival time is between 2 and 2:30 pm. Once all are assembled we will then begin the heartfelt ceremony.
The Honor Guards of Belleville’s VFW and PLAV and Honor Guards of Canton’s Young Marines, lead us in the ceremony. We usually have a few different speakers each year.
During the ceremony there will be a time in which we will honor local veterans who have died in the past year by announcing their name in a bell-ringing ceremony. If you have a name to add of a veteran that has died this past year please give us a call and we would be honored in mentioning their name.
The ceremony is also filled with special songs and prayer and a meaningful performance of TAPS by a local veteran. The ceremony itself will be approximately one hour. Again we would like to invite you to come out and participate in this ride and ceremony.
Please call Kathie or Mary at 734-697-5090 or e-mail email@example.com for more information.
