2014 NUT-UP OR SHUT-UP *Riding* Rally is quite different from events of the past. This is a riding rally, which means we’re on our bikes riding an average of 200 miles a day. The majority of those miles will be an open-ride, meaning you can ride as you please; with a group or on your own to designated meet-up points. Group-rides (or ‘parade rides’) will occur in the National & State Parks, Monuments and Tribal Lands. This allows for each rider to ride as they please, open and free. About 1,000 miles will be traveled through some of the most diverse landscape you’ll ever see, from a red-rock wonderland to extremely remote desert to the best twisty mountain passes to the famous Rocky Mountains. Along the way you’ll see world famous locations Hollywood used not only in the old John Wayne movies but also in numerous modern day films in place of the Grand Canyon. And yes, it truly is that ‘grand’ here.
This land is different. It is special. It does something inside of you that is so deeply personal, and yet shared in knowing head nods with other riders on their bikes. There is a spirituality to the land itself that makes no claim to religion. It allows you to sit with yourself, or your God, in a way rarely experienced elsewhere. Mile after mile it will gently welcome you in, regardless of who you are or what you do (or have done).
Off-bike excursions are being set up for those wishing to immerse themselves a bit into the culture. These are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities we cannot encourage you enough to experience. Native American festivities and celebrations will be offered for both Monument Valley and the reclusive Canyon de Chelly National Monument. You’ll have a chance to enjoy their culture as an audience as well as a cherished member of their family as the Natives who will be hosting us are very dear friends of ours. You’ll be welcomed into their private, secluded areas of their sacred land where the public is not allowed to go, and welcomed as an extended member of their family. This is a tremendous opportunity we highly encourage every single rider to experience. Excursion sign-ups will be offered as soon as we secure the last details regarding the festivities and dinner costs, so keep your eyes open for our NUT-UP Update emails.
From the full moon night ride through Arches National Park, to the lesser known routes like the San Juan Skyway through the Colorado Rocky Mountains, The BIG-NUT is the ultimate way to fully see and experience everything this amazing, world-renowned region has to offer. If you’re considering making the trip to NUT-UP, we encourage you to get the most out of your adventure and take the full week to see everything that you can while you’re here. There simply is no way to do that in less time. However, we do understand sometimes life limits what we do, and so are offering a shorter experience that will include both Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly in the LITTLE-NUT option. But know you’ll be missing some of the absolute best riding roads, incredible sights, the full diversity of the area, the epic Buffalo Pass few riders have ever done (not to be missed!!), the NUT-UP Dinner Night in Durango, Telluride, the event social night with the NUT-UP Event Awards and more, more, more!. We’d hate to see you miss all that..
