|Description||This Veteran’s Day, November 11th , don’t just remember those who
and have served, actually do something that shows your appreciation.
2nd Annual Goose Run held in Pittsburg, Texas is a benefit for people
stricken with cancer and to honor our Veterans. The Goose Run Benefit
a benefit started in honor of a close friend and coworker Ricky
Branum. He was Veteran of The Vietnam War and employed with Pilgrim’s
Pride as a truck driver. He was a big time motorcycle enthusiast. The
first year’s intent of friends and fellow coworkers was to raise
for Ricky “Goose” Branum. He was diagnosed with lung cancer, so the
friends got together and decided the best way to raise money was
something that Goose and the rest of them enjoyed. What resulted was
fun run of motorcycles across East Texas, and the raffling off of
very nice prizes thanks to the generosity of others.
This past July Goose passed away from his cancer but asked his
to keep the game going to remember him. This time around, all the
proceeds from the Goose Benefit go to the American Cancer Society
for Life. Live bands will be playing all day, with the special guest
being the nationally touring Wes Jeans Band from Marshall, Texas.
will also be raffling off a mini-chopper provided by Dwight’s Biker
Dream of New Boston and a utility trailer donated by Big Tex
There will be horse shoe tournaments, vendors, activities for the
and bike games happening all day free to the public. This will all
place at the old football field located behind the elementary and
intermediate schools. Your bound to have a good time.
Registration for the fun run will be the on Veteran’s Day November
between 9a.m. and 11a.m. on Tapp Street next to the police station.
Entry fee for the fun run will be $15 per person or $25 per playing
couple to be paid at registration. Cash prizes will be given away to
1st, 2nd , 3rd and low hand places. Participants are asked to park on
Tapp St. and walk over to the courthouse lawn for the Veteran’s Day
program at the Memorial, which begins at 11a.m. The Goose Run will
immediately after the ceremony.
